User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Very Good, But Not Perfect
I bought this because I have an iPod touch, and they don’t do alarms by themselves like the older iPods do. The iHome IH9 has two alarms on it, which you can set to play the iPod from either a playlist (not sure how that works; haven’t tried it yet) or just from whatever happens to being playing.

The speakers are really good for the price, and the remote is nice to have. It’s a little touchy in terms of where you have to be pointing it at the clock, but it can control everything on the iHome.

The only major problem I have with it is that the volume should really go lower. I feel that its lowest setting is too loud for early mornings and thin walls.

I can’t say anything about the FM or AM radios, because I haven’t used them yet.

Overall, good quality and I’m quite happy with the purchase.

3 Stars Does this charge an iPod touch 2G?
Does this charge an iPod Touch 2G? Sorry for the question, but I can’t seem to get it answered anywhere else!

3 Stars I had hoped for more…
I think I was enchanted when I saw it in Wal-Mart for nearly a hundred buck but i wasn’t willing to pay that. Good thing too. I went to eBay and paid $80 including shipping which is better but not great.

The alarm clock does have a rich sound.

Some of the features are cool. I like the remote control. The 3-D sound is nifty, the dimmer is good but changes easily if you’re not careful. I think the reason it’s so high priced is because of the iPod dock. It doesn’t make practical sense, safety wise, to put the doc where it is-too vulnerable to damage. Overreach the snooze and the dock is toast or your iPod is possibly damaged. I would have place the dock lower inside the machine or built a backing structure.

The gradual ease of the waking feature is not very gradual. It’s better than a regular alarm but not by much. I see gradual as being maybe a minute or 2 but this clock does it within 30 seconds.

I like waking to my own songs but I could do that with a CD player within the alarm clock.

I’m going to keep the clock because trying to return it would be costly but I won’t be buying another.

4 Stars it more than serves its purpose
first…i am quite happy with the ihome…

i LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can dim the lights all the way to black, since i am very light-sensitive…

and, if you press “sleep” before you go to bed, based on the volume of the sleep mode, you can control the volume of your alarm…

(other people say that their alarm is too loud or soft)

th remote is good, but would make more sense if it was the same format as an ipod…

i have a tall skinny (i forget which generation–maybe 2nd?) ipod nano and the ihome didn’t come with the attachment to fit it…the good news is that my ipod came with one…so i was fine…

(though the it’s white and the ihome is black–so they don’t match)

the ihome itself could (and should) have been more like an ipod–you can’t change the song without the remote or touching the ipod itself…

(that’s a feature that i’d definitely change)

oh, and the sound is great unless you are playing a hard metal band…then it gets a bit distorted…a partial solution to that is to turn the volume on the ipod down…

even so…i am really enjoying it so far and it’s been about 5 weeks…

5 Stars fantastic product
This is a great product to add with any type IPod or mp3. It was delivered after the scheduled date, but was still worth the waite. The customer service was excellent. Overall it is a great product.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Great design — way too noisy for me
This is the best-designed, most innovative FM transmitter I’ve seen for the iPod, but actual performance left much to be desired. The SmartScan function is supposed to find open FM frequencies, but it seemed to choose at random, often choosing frequencies that competed with strong FM stations. In these cases you couldn’t hear the iPod at all. The best we could do was tune the radio to an open frequency and manually set the RoadTrip to match — this required stopping the car, since the display is so small. Even then, the background noise was nearly as loud as the signal from the RoadTrip. The bottom line: the RoadTrip, even with its clever innovations, can’t overcome the inherent limitations of FM transmission.

5 Stars Griffin RoadTrip - Works as Advertised
Works as advertised, good build quality. Sound is certainly good enough for listening in a running auto in traffic.

My one minor complaint is that the “Scan” feature overwrites existing presets (unless I am doing something wrong), if one is trying to find an empty station that is on of the presets.

I would highly recommend.

1 Star ANTOnline will not accept return of poor product
Griffin RoadTrip FM Transmitter for iPhone and iPod (Black)

This product does not work well in the state of Iowa and ANTOline will not take it back because they obviously don’t take ANY returns. There is nothing wrong with the packaging and this product might work for someone else-somewhere else so they could resell it but they are a company we will never deal with again. It has also given us a very bad taste of Amazon.

This was a Christmas present that has gone horridly bad!!

4 Stars iPhone 3G
Using this as my car solution for my iPhone 3G. When the package was delivered, I was a little scared, because nowhere on the roadtrip package did it say anything about iPhone compatibility.

I opened it up anyway and found that there was no dock adapter for the iPhone, luckily I found an included one that fits my iPhone + PowerSupport AirJacket case. Snug but fits well.

I went to the car and plugged it in and then the iPhone. I get an annoying “do you want to use airplane mode” message, and auto scanned using the instructions provided by Griffin. It found a few FM stations and I was able to tune in to my iPhone. Pandora, Slacker radio, and Wunderradio work just fine. Oh yah, the iPod part of the iPhone works too. I tried the 3.5mm jack to plug in my cassette adapter, but the quality was horrible. the FM is fine for me, I’m not terribly picky, as long as the signal is fine.

The neck is sturdy enough, it charges my iPhone and connects it to my audio system. My only gripe is that I get that annoying message when I plug in my iPhone… but that isn’t really the RoadTrips fault.

I’ll try to update this review when I get more ‘car time’ in. Goodbye XM radio.

5 Stars iPhone Superb Car Connection
Griffin’s new RoadTrip for my iPhone 3G works extremely well. You have to searcha litteto find the right frequency to use, but having done so, I have very good performance on my daily commute with no interference whatsoever. The mounting is great as well. Could be a little longer neck, but great overall.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Car adapter
The order was sent out in no time, service was great. I will say it looked as though the package had been opened before, maybe something happened while it was in route to me. The product works pretty well and the price was Wonderful!

5 Stars Works Very Well
I feel I should start by saying that my 5-star rating reflects the scope of the product: that is to say, I am not considering the superior sound quality that I would achieve if my car stereo had a line-in jack when writing this review.

My old FM transmitter was recently stolen so based on reviews and my satisfaction with the previous generation of iTrip I decided to give this one a try with my 2nd gen iPod Touch. In my area (a fairly dense suburb), I know a station that works very well for me and so I didn’t use the SmartScan feature at all for quite some time.

However on a recent trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles I used the SmartScan feature frequently and it worked so well that I decided to write this review. I changed stations maybe five or six times in roughly 400 miles, and each time I wound up with crystal clarity. The trip from SF to LA is pretty sparsely populous, mind you, but even while passing through larger towns this thing really surprised me.

I recommend you try and find a good station for your usual driving area through trial and error. For me, the SmartScan doesn’t actually pick up the station that I use. The reason I prefer my own choice is that it works very well in almost all surrounding cities, rather than being “perfect” in only my very immediate area.

As with my previous iTrip, the sound quality is excellent. Virtually no static is apparent.

I keep the antenna on my car retracted. I don’t have any strong evidence to support my theory that this helps the transmitter to overpower radio stations, but it seems to work out for me.

The previous generation of iTrip that I owned had an annoying problem where it wouldn’t always remember the station I was on each time I started up my car. The new one does not have this problem.

I can’t say this iTrip will work well for everyone everywhere (it won’t), but that SmartScan button was sure a life-saver during my recent road trip. Great product.

4 Stars Quick hitch for my iPod
Griffin 4045-TRPAUTOS iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod is well worth the money spent…quick to hook up and easy to use through your car’s radio.

5 Stars Works as Expected, Pretty Good!
This product works pretty good. The vast majority if the time, it finds a good clear frequency. Only very seldom while driving is there interference. For the money, this was good and since it is still an FM transmitter, I think that it works as well as possible.

Hope this helps,

N

5 Stars Great product!
Works great and is easy to set to the international mode. Press “Function” then hold down “Mode” options will come up to choose between US/EU/JP. Select JP and you can tune to 87.7 and 87.9. No interference!!!

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Worth the investment
I was looking for something to play my MP3 player through my company owned Prius. I looked at adding a “direct connection” with DICE or other device, but didn’t want the hassle of installation along with the cost. I did a lot of research and the Monster Radioplay 300 fit the bill for me. For <$40 I can listen to my MP3 in any car (not just the Prius) and the sound quality is as good as any FM Station. Many people state it is CD quality and it may be for their system, but on the basic Prius system this was not so. I had a pleasant surprise when I was traveling from St. Louis to Indy. I pulled off the road and turned off my MP3 and the surprise was that there was an actual station on the setting I was using. The Monster actually overpowered it!!! I wouldn’t of even known this had I not stopped. I did have some interference around the Indy area, but I changed frequencies and all was good. For the money , you can’t go wrong. If you are a “diehard” audiophile (like I am at home) this may not be clear enough for you. If you can listen to FM and have no issues with the sound quality in a car, this unit works great!

5 Stars For an FM Transmitter… One of the Best
The key thing that makes this FM transmitter better than a lot of the Zune FM transmitter is that it doesn’t charge your Zune. I’m guessing this allows them to use more power to transmit the FM signal. I’ve seen this FM transmitter completely blow out smaller radio stations, so the lack of 87.7 and 87.9 in this device is completely bearable. I have used this particular device in Minneapolis/St Paul and Milwaukee with success.

5 Stars Best universal FM transmitter for the price
Sound quality and construction is well worth the money. I had the Radioplay 200 and I just upgraded to the newer 300 model. There is no feedback or static even within city limits, and the bright LED digital tuning makes it easy to tune into an open station. And whats great is the clear sound from almost every portable music player out there. If you’re still using a car cassette adapter, then this is a definite must have.

4 Stars Finally a device for something other than an IPod
It’s nice to finally have something that will work with an MP3 player other than an IPod. Product works great!

5 Stars Cheaper than a new radio with a CD player
I am using this item with my Sansa Fuze in a Ford F-150 and it works great. We live in a large metro city and haven’t had any other stations “bleed-in.” Volume on either the MP3 player or the truck radio must be turned up in order to experience optimum sound. Was considering replacing the truck’s radio prior to buying this product, but that’s no longer necessary.
