5 Stars All I was expecting and more.
I bought and returned 2 other C/Rs w/CD player before I found this one. Since it’s totally digital, the time is always displayed, yet at the same time I can know which station I’m listening to on the radio, which channel and minutes I’m listening to on a CD, everything is visible. Because there are so many functions and sub-functions, there aren’t enough buttons on the machine itself, so a remote control is necessary. That’s all right. It gives me everything I want. And the sound quality is quite adequate for the audio books I listen to.

4 Stars Very Good, But Not Perfect
I bought this because I have an iPod touch, and they don’t do alarms by themselves like the older iPods do. The iHome IH9 has two alarms on it, which you can set to play the iPod from either a playlist (not sure how that works; haven’t tried it yet) or just from whatever happens to being playing.

The speakers are really good for the price, and the remote is nice to have. It’s a little touchy in terms of where you have to be pointing it at the clock, but it can control everything on the iHome.

The only major problem I have with it is that the volume should really go lower. I feel that its lowest setting is too loud for early mornings and thin walls.

I can’t say anything about the FM or AM radios, because I haven’t used them yet.

Overall, good quality and I’m quite happy with the purchase.

Does this charge an iPod Touch 2G? Sorry for the question, but I can’t seem to get it answered anywhere else!

3 Stars I had hoped for more…
I think I was enchanted when I saw it in Wal-Mart for nearly a hundred buck but i wasn’t willing to pay that. Good thing too. I went to eBay and paid $80 including shipping which is better but not great.

The alarm clock does have a rich sound.

Some of the features are cool. I like the remote control. The 3-D sound is nifty, the dimmer is good but changes easily if you’re not careful. I think the reason it’s so high priced is because of the iPod dock. It doesn’t make practical sense, safety wise, to put the doc where it is-too vulnerable to damage. Overreach the snooze and the dock is toast or your iPod is possibly damaged. I would have place the dock lower inside the machine or built a backing structure.

The gradual ease of the waking feature is not very gradual. It’s better than a regular alarm but not by much. I see gradual as being maybe a minute or 2 but this clock does it within 30 seconds.

I like waking to my own songs but I could do that with a CD player within the alarm clock.

I’m going to keep the clock because trying to return it would be costly but I won’t be buying another.

first…i am quite happy with the ihome…

i LOVE LOVE LOVE that you can dim the lights all the way to black, since i am very light-sensitive…

and, if you press “sleep” before you go to bed, based on the volume of the sleep mode, you can control the volume of your alarm…

(other people say that their alarm is too loud or soft)

th remote is good, but would make more sense if it was the same format as an ipod…

i have a tall skinny (i forget which generation–maybe 2nd?) ipod nano and the ihome didn’t come with the attachment to fit it…the good news is that my ipod came with one…so i was fine…

(though the it’s white and the ihome is black–so they don’t match)

the ihome itself could (and should) have been more like an ipod–you can’t change the song without the remote or touching the ipod itself…

(that’s a feature that i’d definitely change)

oh, and the sound is great unless you are playing a hard metal band…then it gets a bit distorted…a partial solution to that is to turn the volume on the ipod down…

even so…i am really enjoying it so far and it’s been about 5 weeks…

I was very pleased with my overall experience with the iHome pivoting alarm clock. My 2nd generation iPod touch works perfectly with the unit and charges with no problems. The iPod fits snugly in the mount even with my silicon protective case still on! The pivoting functionality works flawlessly; the clock rotates instantaneously. The compact design enables the unit to be used on small nightstands with room to spare. This is a unique design that is unmatched by any other product out there for the iPod touch!

The sound from the speaker is adequate for what it’s worth. You’re not going to entertain a huge party with the output but it’s more then enough for listening to music in your room, kitchen, bathroom or living room or watching a video on your touch.

I highly recomend the unit if you are looking for a compact and attractive design for your iPod touch!

4 Stars Very good but could use a few more features
I bought this to replace an iHome IH5 so even an old alarm with the big bells on top would have been better. Seriously, it was unbelievably bad.

One of my concerns was that it not be too bright. You could literally read by the light of the IH5. This seems to be a problem with a lot of these ipod alarm clocks. This one is just right for me on the low setting. The sound is fine for a clock but it wouldn’t be a replacement for a real dock system. The tilt feature is actually pretty cool. I do occasionally watch video on my ipod before bed and I have both a standard ipod and an iphone. When you use the iphone you just grab the clock and roll it to the left. The display rotates as well. I haven’t used the remote much but it seems fine. I also like the design style

A few cons. There is no radio which may or not matter to you. Also, the buttons on the top are all the same size and aren’t very raised so it is difficult to find them by feel. Fortunately the snooze button is in a different location and easily identifiable.

Overall I am very happy with the pivoting alarm. As long as you don’t require a radio it is a great choice.

5 Stars VERY EASY TO WORK-Daughter Loves
I originally bought the ILive dock with alarm…but the alarm was TOO loud and repeatedly got louder and was not convenient because of this. Also, the IPOD function experienced difficulties in different ways on both I had purchased through ILive. SO, I tried this one and am VERY HAPPY! It is simple to understand, easy to set, and charges great.

2 Stars WOn’t charge my iPod
I usually have pretty good luck with electronics but this thing is frustrating. I guess I just got a defective unit because it was working for about a week and now it simply won’t charge my iPod anymore but it will play it. I tried 2 different iPods. I am sending it back as it’s still under warranty for 90 days from purchase.

Gift for our daughter. Overall very pleased with the product. Good sound, easy to navigate, good display options and handy remote.

Have a few problems with it freezing up and going black - even with battery back-up. Need to remove all power sources and start over to get it operating again. Plan on returning and getting another one.

3 Stars Stilll Defective…
I read all the reviews of people receiving defective units that would shut off seconds after the alarm turns on.

Not seeing anything out there that really appealed to me as much as this one, I decided to just go ahead and order it and hope the one I got wasn’t defective. Unfortunately, it was.

At first I thought it was fine. Knowing of the issue the first thing I did after setting the time was to set the alarm for a minute or two ahead and wait for it to go off and see what happened. The alarm turned on the radio and it didn’t shut off seconds later, so I thought I was in the clear.

My particular unit though decides to power off a minute or two after it goes off instead of a few seconds. Also, it appears that only the Alarm 1 function is affected, as when I tested it with Alarm 2, it worked fine for a good 8-9 minutes before I was satisfied that it was working properly.

I’m sending this back hoping to have better luck with the Logitech Pure-Fi Dream version. I hadn’t noticed it before I ordered this one; it’s certainly much more expensive, but I think the extra presets, more functional back-lit remote, detailed display, and better speakers will make it worth the price difference. I’ll do a normal review of it once I’ve used it for a few days.

It charges the iphone or ipod –even if you are playing it, it charges.

It is a great alarm clock with multiple options for sounds and timers to wake you…..and get you out of bed as it has snooze option.

It is a radio

It plays music ,white noise, podcasts, etc etc from you iphone /ipod

It has a great range for volume for its purpose…you will never get it to play boomingly loud throughout the house, but it has great sound for the room you use it in

Most likely the bedroom , but you could use it in bathroom or kitchen for music, podcasts etc.

It is very portable.Easy to move room to room or travel with.

I use it to sleep by every night. Wonderful !!!!

I got this after purchasing another speaker for my IPod, I generally use it in our living room and outdoors when making BBQ and the like.

The fact that this model worked as an alarm clock is what made me order it. As an alarm clock for IPod, it works great. 2 different alarms can be setup at the same time, which I think is a good enhancement over a regular alarm clock. It has 4 modes you can use it: Buzz, Radio AM/FM, AUX or IPod. You can actually connect other devices to it through the convenient AUX IN they included. The radio can store up to 3 preset stations for you to choose.

It also has a sensor that lits the unit when you wave your hand over it so you can see the buttons when dark. The sensor also works when the alarm goes on, just wave your hand and this will activate the snooze feature.

It is not a heavy device nor very big, which works fine if you keep it in your bedroom and don’t want an excessively big looking alarm clock.

The only downside is that the sound is not very potent, yes the volume can reach very high levels but the sound will distort. What I mean is, for an alarm clock you don’t actually setup on a very high volume this is fine. Using this one outdoors however, results in a poor volume performance. Other than that, I’d recommend this.

I’ve also read other customers had issues with their IPods making weird noises in the device. I tested this with an IPod 80 gig (5th gen) and a 120 gig (6th gen) and they both worked great.

3 Stars Pretty nice, but first one failed after 1 week
Nice unit, particularly good sound for the price. Controls for setting time and alarm not particularly user friendly, but read the manual and you will figure it out. Inserting iPhone a little clumsy. Comes with different cradles including one for iPhone 3G. One big glitch on part of users instructions: nowhere do they tell you that in order for the alarm to play wake-up music with your iPhone (I have a 3G) you must reset your iPhone every time you synchronize the phone in iTunes. Apple also doesn’t bother to tell you how to reset the iPhone. I guess we are all supposed to be omniscient. Anyway, the way to reset your iPhone is turn the phone off then turn it back on while pressing the menu button. If you do not do that this radio will not play your tunes at wake up time and you will oversleep. Finally (and the reason I gave it a 3 instead of a 4), the first unit I had failed within one week. However, Amazon made it easy for me to exchange but I was still without a radio for a week.

2 Stars Reception bad, sound unacceptable
I bought this to occasionally listen to news radio and podcasts but it works for neither. I don’t like to send stuff back but this was so bad I had to.

The problem is the sound is geared to be big and boomy, not to voice and it’s so low and muffled it’s indecipherable for normal voice radio at any distance at all. The 30 year old portable I intended to replace with this with sounded way better for voice radio.

Second, the FM reception is very poor. My old portable got much better reception with no external antenna. The iHome unit has a little long stringy FM receptor cable that didn’t pull in stations clearly no matter now I strung it.

If you want a big boomy sound from a little ipod player this is probably OK but for podcasts and clear radio reception no way.

For a very reasonable price we got AM, FM and an iPod dock for my wife’s new Nano. Everything works as advertised….

Great sound,nice and sleek design, I listen to all my favorite songs on this. And the alarm is great on my old clock radio the sound was TERRIBLE!!! I love the design because its small and its a cube and it is pretty easy to transport because I can take it to the basement and then just listen to music down there. Oh and did I mention that you can turn the sound up pretty high!!!! The radio is pretty good a little fuzzy but I’m glad that I don’t really listen to the radio much. This thing is great!!! I recommend whoevers reading this to get this iHome!!!!

4 Stars Enjoying my iHome Clock Radio
I’m thoroughly enjoying my new clock radio. I have to get used to how to turn the alarm feature on and off and change the time that the alarm goes off. But the sound quality is wonderful for nano and radio. The only minor problem is that the lowest sound setting is loud. So if I want to set my alarm to radio, but my husband doesn’t have to get up, he can still hear it. But I love the compact size and the way it looks. It fits perfectly on my nightstand.
